Dairy-Free Pineapple-Peach Turmeric Smoothie

Dairy-Free Pineapple-Peach Turmeric Smoothie
Yum

Day 5 of my smoothie week concludes with another easy, tropical-inspired dairy-free smoothie packed with nutrients to keep you energized throughout the day (or weekend). This is my pineapple-peach turmeric smoothie, and it is absolutely delicious. I can’t say this is my favorite of the 5 smoothies I’ve posted this week, but I may be slightly partial to it because I was never a big peach fan, until now. Total game changer.

Peaches, like other stone fruit, are considered very healthful. According to a study from Texas A&M, stone fruit (such as peaches, plums, and nectarines) have been shown to help ward off obesity-related diseases including diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. The study suggests that stone fruits have whats referred to as “bioactive” and “phenolic” compounds with anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory properties that may also reduce the bad cholesterol commonly associated with cardiovascular disease. Peaches are loaded with antioxidants, vitamin C and are also high in fiber-something we all could use more of.

Turmeric and coconut water are also highlighted in this refreshing tropical fruit smoothie. Turmeric is considered a powerful anti-inflammatory herb that’s been used for centuries to treat a number of ailments. This root, which is a cousin of ginger, is native to Southeast Asia and sometimes called “Indian Saffron” because of its rich golden color. With its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, turmeric is thought to be a health-promoting powerhouse when used in moderation.

I use coconut water in this smoothie recipe as a great, easy, non-dairy go-to base. Naturally refreshing, coconut water (nicknamed “Mother Nature’s sport drink” by advertisers) has a subtle, sweet, nutty taste. It contains easily digested carbohydrates and electrolytes. Fat-free, coconut water is absolutely packed with potassium.  It keeps this smoothie tropical and healthful across the board.
