Coffee cake has always lived in that delicious space between breakfast and dessert—but this frosted Greek yogurt version takes things up a notch. With its tender, moist crumb and just-right level of sweetness, it doesn’t need a glaze, but it gets one anyway—and the result is irresistible. It’s the kind of cake that feels at […]
Hello, Fall. If you’ve never come across Milopita before, allow me to introduce you to this cozy Greek treasure. Despite its name—which translates to “apple pie”—Milopita is actually a traditional Greek apple cake. It’s a dessert that feels both humble enough for everyday enjoyment and refined enough to honor the roots of heritage baking. It’s the […]
Baked is the name of a bakery in Red Hook, Brooklyn that is worth a visit should you ever find yourself in the area. Baked is also the title of a cookbook which has received lots of attention since its release in 2008, and understandably so, it is a fantastic book. This sour cream coffee […]
Moms are amazing. And I think it’s fair to say, being a mom is one of the hardest jobs there is. But the truth is, no one tells you that before you have kids, only once you’ve had them. But being a mom, I get it. It’s a learn-as-you-go, hope you don’t mess up too […]
I’m willing to bet you know who Ina Garten is and why her modern-day comfort food recipes are so popular. Uncomplicated and reliable are the two main reasons. I’ve admired Ina for many years and grew up going to The Barefoot Contessa, her well-known specialty food store in the trendy East Hampton beach community. And […]
Calling it like it is, no one can ever have enough coffee cake recipes. And to be honest, I’m a sucker for banana bread as well, so this chocolate chip banana coffee cake blends two things I adore, in one. Total winner. If you ask my husband (who’s not typically a banana fan), this (like pie) […]
This is my churro bundt cake {swoon}. Traditional churros are something my whole family loves. Seriously, what’s not to love, we’re talking sweet fried dough with a soft inside and crispy outside coated in sugar. With some similarities to another friend’s dough favorite, funnel cakes, churros, I’ve learned, can be more than just a treat at […]
I love coffee cake and I don’t discriminate. What I love most about coffee cake is how many different variations there are, from fruity, to crumbly, the combinations are limitless. I enjoy making coffee cakes that align with the season, as is the case here with this lovely vanilla cranberry coffee cake. Simple, flavorful, festive, […]

This is my go-to coffee cake. It is easy to make, contains few ingredients, and never disappoints. The secret ingredient in this basic recipe is the old-school ingredient, Bisquick. Growing up, my mom used Bisquick to make dumplings, which she put in her homemade chicken soup. My older sister reintroduced me to Bisquick several years […]

Welcome to my blog Simmer + Sauce. I always thought I was going to be a lawyer, but going to culinary school was one of the best decisions I ever made. I’m a former professional chef from NYC who loves to eat, cook and talk about food. My focus is great food, with solid recipes and reasonable ingredient lists. Cooking should be enjoyable, not stressful. Many of my recipes are family friendly and often on the healthy(ish) side.
